About the Painting: The painting of the Downingtown Log House ( circa 1701) is painted on a wood panel in a medium known as gouache, an opaque form of watercolor. The original painting now hangs in the Downingtown Municipal Building.
About the artist: The artist, Eric Hesse, is the son of a former Downingtown resident, Janet Kreibel Hesse, Downingtown High School, class of 1952. He is a graduate of the St. Olaf College, Northfield , Minnesota, having also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, and completed a residency at the Actzak Museum in Paris. He was selected by the National foundation for Advancement in the Arts as a fellow in their visual arts program, which culminated in an exhibition of his work at the Corcoran Museum in Washington, D.C. His work has also been exhibited at galleries in Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Madison, Miami, San Francisco and Paris.
Mr Hesse currently divides his time between San Francisco and Philadelphia.
Proceeds go toward the continued upkeep of the Log House.
